Santa Fe Parking Garage
The Central Oklahoma Traffic & Parking Authority (“COTPA”) is responsible for the planning, development and operation of the capitol city’s parking and transportation system. It’s largest downtown garage is the Santa Fe Parking Garage at over 1,500 spaces. The garage was in desperate need of cosmetic and functional improvements to create a more pleasant experience for the thousands of downtown workers and visitors who park there weekly.
COTPA tasked the architect with the challenge of revitalizing the exterior appearance of the facade to activate its street level retail spaces while improving wayfinding to make finding entries both easier and safer. The architect of record, Miles Associates, conceived of an entirely new street level fascia system made of natural zinc. New vehicular and pedestrian portals fabricated from bold colored metal panels would mark the new entries and corridors for entry. Spanning its nearly block long facades would hand custom dichroic art panels fabricated from highly reflective materials that changes colors in light.
The project carried a limited budget that needed to pack a punch. Partnering with the only custom facade company of its kind, the owner and architect found Artform to help complete this project. Artform aided in the detailing and prototyping of numerous aspects of the new exterior elements. Once final construction documents were ready and budgets completed Artform executed the fabrication and installation.
